American foxhound is a scent hound. It is considered as a warrior when it comes to hunting.
This dog is not breed to be a family pet but with proper training and socialization as a young pup it learn to adapt to family life. They bond well with the entire family. They are also sweet, kind, loyal, and loving at home.
American foxhound is very athletic, hard working and with a high energy level and will require daily exercise.
Its legs are very long and straight-boned. The foxhound’s chest is rather narrow. It has a long muzzle, and a large, domed skull.
The ears are wide and low-set. The eyes are hazel or brown, and are large and wide-set. It has short hair coat so it only needs minimal grooming.
American Foxhound History
Considered the most American of dog breeds, the American Foxhound descended from similar breeds in England, Ireland and France.
This breed was developed for the sport of fox-chasing that had been immensely popular among the European and early American aristocrats. The American Foxhound became a faster and more streamlined dog as fox-chasing began spreading through the southern US states of Kentucky and Tennessee.
